Battleship

PG-13
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Tadanobu Asano, Gregory Gadson and Liam Neeson
Running Time: 2 Hours and 11 Minutes

I had no idea what to expect from this movie beings it was based on the real naval combat "Battleship" game by the toy company Hasbro.
The movie takes place in Oahu, Hawaii, more specifically Pearl Harbor. It is about the young Lieutenant, Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) who is perpetually getting into trouble.
He falls in love at first sight with the Admirals beautiful daughter Samantha Shane (Brooklyn Decker) and he is too nervous and unable to bring himself to ask the Admiral for his daughter's hand in marriage.
While out at sea with a fleet of Navy ships during war games exercises, suddenly they are confronted with an unknown force! After a very intense battle ensues and losing senior officers, the young Lieutenant Hopper is faced with the daunting task of being made the Captain and making all of the tough decisions.
While the battle becomes bigger and bigger, the planet earth is being assaulted to the likes of which no one had ever seen before! Attacking on the sea, the land and also by air, it seems as if there is no way to stop this alien force which is determined to show its authority!
I found this movie to be very intense and really enjoyable. This movie really brought you into the action and they also incorporated a sense of patriotism and loyalty as well.
One of the the characters, Lieutenant Colonel Mick Canales (Gregory Gadson) actually fought valiantly in Iraq in 2007 where he lost both of his legs and severely injured his arm during an IED attack. He was a real hero in the movie!
Even though this story was predicable, I really enjoyed it! It was the kind of story that just makes you feel good and makes you proud to be an American! I loved the fact that they focused on what is right with America and used some of our "real heroes"!!!
I would highly recommend this movie, but parents be advised that the alien creatures are very scary and intimidating, children will have a hard time with these beings.
Also, the weapons and artillery that the aliens use are very destructive and scare the heck out of you!
The PG-13 rating is a good guideline, however even some young people older than 13 might still be intimidated by this movie.
I am giving " Battleship" three bags of popcorn!

  1. It's pretty much just Transformers on water, and it's not even that fun. There were occasional moments where it seemed like this flick was getting somewhere, but then it just fell apart and decided to get louder and louder. My ears were pretty much ringing by the end of that and that never happens to me at places, except for maybe concerts. Good review.
